FAQs

Do you shoot any digital?

Yes. With each moment or scene throughout the day my first priority is to capture it on film, I will then also shoot a few digitally. I work this way so that I am able to send you a few ‘sneak peek’ photos from your wedding within a day or so while we wait for the film to be processed.

However, if you book me as an accompanying photographer to shoot alongside your digital photographer, I will shoot 100% on film.

How many photos will we receive?

There is no strict minimum or limit to how many photos I take on the day. I aim to photograph your day as completely as I can, free from restrictions or quotas that need to be met.

Having said that, a typical wedding day with bride and groom preparation photos through to the dance floor would usually result in between 300-400+ photos.

What cameras do you use?

When you think of ‘film photos’, what do you think of? Beautifully refined, traditionally posed portraits with painterly-like colours and tones? Or do images of childhood birthday parties and summer holidays taken on the family camera come to mind? Perhaps both, plus some others in-between?

Shooting on film can look like a variety of things. I have a range of cameras to achieve different looks…

Point and shoot - Like the ‘family cameras’ of the 80s & 90s which give the look of the in-the-moment photos where imperfections are overlooked and even embraced, like the focus not quite being right, the colours are a little ‘off’, the dark parts of the photo are faded or the lighter parts of the image are ‘too’ bright - but it doesn’t matter because the moment, with all of it’s emotion and significance was captured - forever on film!

35mm SLR - Still a little grainy with a few imperfections, yet the focus is sharper and the overall look comes across more ‘professional’. With a wide range of lenses available, SLR cameras are the most versatile film cameras for all moments of your day.

Medium Format - The rolls of film are physically larger which results in an image that is full of depth and clarity - cinematic like. Best for the stiller moments throughout a wedding day - the dress hanging, the ceremony scene, traditional portraits, settings and views throughout the day. There’s something quite magic about medium format film.

I would typically shoot a mix of all three camera types on a wedding day but can also favour one over the others to suit your preference. I’m still waiting for the day when a couple asks me to shoot their wedding only on point-and-shoot/disposable cameras…or the other way and capture the day entirely on medium format!

What film do you use?

Colour - I love Portra 400 for its versatility, beautiful skintones and overall look. Kodak Max is perfect for dance floor and the in-between moments.

Black & White - Ilford HP5 & Kodak Tri-X during the day, Kentmere Pan 400 & Ilford 3200 as the light fades and the dance floor comes to life!

Again, I usually shoot a mix of colour and black & white throughout the day, however I can shoot mostly colour or mostly black & white depending on your preference.

We’ve already booked a digital photographer but we want film too, can you be our film guy?

Absolutely! Much as you would add on a videographer or content creator, I can come alongside your digital photographer and capture your wedding day on film.

My style of shooting as an accompanying photographer is with a 'guest with a camera’ approach and wouldn’t impede on your main photographer's workflow on the day. Indeed, I have shot weddings in this way alongside Joey Willis, Bulb Creative, Joey & Jase, Allumé Weddings, Sommar and Cassandra Ladru

Do you shoot super 8?

As of 2025 weddings - yes! I am available to shoot solely on super 8 or as an addition to me shooting as an accompanying photographer.

How far do you travel for weddings?

Worldwide! I’m based in Byron Bay, Australia but love to travel and would be more than happy to come to wherever you are celebrating your day of days.

We actually would like mostly digital with a bit of film, do you offer this?

Of course. Take a look at my digital based wedding photography service - The Loved Ones / @thelovedonesphotography
